Todays video is all about why people dont achieve their goals and some simple tips to help you get ahead

Being someone that specialises in helping people articulate and set a plan for their long terms goals, I thought this topic with timely as I know that most people start pursuing their goals especially their new years resolutions with great passion and energy but funny enough statically 95% of people who make them and have not start implementing them before middle of January will not follow through.

 

So the question to ask yourself now that we are moving into the year how are you going in terms of achieving your goals you set for the year ahead? From my experience the key to getting ahead and happiness in life is progress and in order to achieve lasting change in your life, the answer is your WHY.

Pull out a list of all your goals, regardless of how concrete, and ask yourself for each one;

– why do I want to achieve this goal?

– What is my why?

– Am I committed enough to my why to do whatever it takes to achieve this goal?

My network know that part of my process is to have a values conversation with everyone we meet because your core values determines your WHY and these are the drivers that will motivate you to do what needs to be done to get lasting results. By identifying or even upgrading your why, you can tap into a greater motivation and commitment to achieve your goals.

Here are 3 simple things you need to consider to help you achieve your goals

Firstly you should look at your vision and purpose. You have to have a vision which is inspiring. Achieving financial independence so you can spend more time with your family, leaving a legacy, doing more volunteering work, spending 6 months travelling the world or starting a new business venture are all things that will have a massive impact on your life and should inspire you to stay on course to achieving your goals.

Secondly the goal you have set has to be compelling enough to have the power to pull you towards achieving that goal. I heard this great concept recently that there are 2 types of motivation, push and pull motivation.

Push goals are goals like losing weight, getting to work early or saving more money rely on will power which is why these goals generally drop off pretty quickly.

Pull goals on the other hand need to be compelling enough to have the power to pull you towards achieving that goal. These goals might be positive or negative but need to be strong enough to follow through when the times get tough. Me as a business owner I have a vision on where I want to the business to go which’s makes me go the extra mile and do things outside my comfort zone like making this video.

And lastly the third thing you need to consider is to always revaluate yourself both personally and professionally. The idea is that we should all regularly review and revaluate what you have set out to achieve and why, so you can question and challenge your ideas and make sure the reasons are strong enough for you to pursue forward.

Re-evaluating and monitoring your progress goes hand in hand with long term achievements.

I’ve always found that having an accountability partner or coach next to you plays an important role in your progress and motivation as someone is holding you accountable and keeping you on track.
